Se discuten los factores que influyen en la erosion del suelo y las practicas mas eficientes para contrarrestar este fenomeno en cultivos anuales, utilizando a la yuca como ejemplo. Para explicar los factores que influyen en la erosion del suelo se utiliza la ecuacion A = R x K x L x S x C x P, donde A = perdidas de suelo causadas por la erosion; R = precipitacion; K = el suelo; L y S = longitud y gradiente de la pendiente; C = manejo del cultivo; P = practicas de conservacion. Se mencionan brevemente los resultados exptl. obtenidos en Mondomito y Agua Blanca (Cauca, Colombia) donde se estudiaron los efectos de diferentes practicas culturales en yuca en la erosion del suelo. Para aumentar los rendimientos de cultivos anuales en regiones de ladera y reducir la erosion del suelo, se recomiendan una fertilizacion adecuada, uso de var. adaptadas y de alto rendimiento, control de plagas, enfermedades y malezas, utilizacion de una labranza min. del suelo, siembra siguiendo las curvas de nivel, uso de barreras vivas de un pasto y de coberturas del suelo. The factors influencing soil erosion and the most efficient practices to counteract this phenomenon in annual crops, using cassava as an example, are discussed. The equation A = R x K x L x S x C x P is used to explain the factors influencing soil erosion, in which A = soil losses due to erosion; R = rainfall; K = soil; L and S = slope length and gradient; C= crop management; P = conservation practices. Exptl. results obtained in Mondomito and Agua Blanca (Cauca, Colombia), where the effects of different cultural practices in cassava on soil erosion were studied, are briefly discussed. To increase annual crop yields in hilly regions and to reduce soil erosion, recommendations are to apply adequate fertilizers, use adapted, high-yielding var., control pests, diseases, and weeds, use min. soil tillage, plant across the contour, use live grass barriers and soil mulches.
