Se encontraron plantas de yuca con manchas angulares cerca de las venas de las hojas, marchitamiento de los brotes jovenes, muerte descendente o formacion de chancros en algunas partes del tallo lignificado en campos de la estacion exptl. de Saman Mocho en el Estado de Carabobo, Venezuela, y en la U. Central de Venezuela en el Estado de Aragua. El patogeno fue aislado e identificado como la bacteria Xanthomonas campestris pv. manihotis, agente causal del CBB. Esta enfermedad se pensaba restringida al oriente de Venezuela. Es el primer informe de su incidencia en la region central del pais y constituye una seria amenaza para el cultivo de la yuca. (RA)
Cassava plants showing angular spots near leaf veins, wilting of young shoots, dieback, or canker formation of lignified stem parts, were found in fields at the Saman Mocho exptl. station in the state of Carabobo, Venezuela, and at U. Central de Venezuela in the state of Aragua. The pathogen was isolated and identified as the bacteria Xanthomonas campestris pv. manihotis, causal agent of CBB. This disease was thought to be restricted to the eastern Venezuela. This is the 1st report of its incidence in the central zone, constituting a serious threat to cassava crops. (AS)
