Using FAO agricultural production and food balance sheet statistics for the period 1970-1989, bean production is analyzed to identify trends in production, the competitive position of beans relative to that of important competing and complementary crops and commodities, trends in imports and exports, and the supply of protein that beans contribute to national food systems.
