La Seccion de Produccion de Semillas del Programa de Pastos Tropicales del CIAT continuo sus actividades normales de multiplicacion de semillas en 1984, pero logro incrementos significativos en las actividades de investigacion aplicada y capacitacion. En relacion con la investigacion aplicada se realizaron estudios sobre: 1) epoca y densidad de siembra y fertilizacion para el establecimiento de Stylosanthes capitata cv. Capica en Carimagua, Llanos de Colombia; 2) metodos de cosecha para S. capitata; 3) rendimiento de semilla y epoca de madurez en las accesiones componentes del cv. Capica; 4) madurez optima para la cosecha de Stylosanthes macrocephala; 5) rendimiento de semilla de Stylosanthes guianensis var. pauciflora; 6) indices de calidad de semillas y emergencia en el campo de Andropogon gayanus. Se mencionan las diferentes actividades de capacitacion en produccion y tecnologia de semillas de pastos tropicales, la colaboracion tecnica con instituciones nacionales, y multiplicacion y distribucion de semillas.
