Summary, etc Se analizan en detalle el trabajo de investigacion realizado en CIAT en 1980 y los resultados obtenidos sobre adquisicion, evaluacion y distribucion de germoplasma; mejoramiento de frijol arbustivo y trepador; resistencia a enfermedades virales (BCMV, BYMV, virus del mosaico de la soya, virus moteado clorotico del frijol, BGMV), fungicas (roya, antracnosis y mancha foliar angular) y bacterianas (anublo bacteriano y anublo de halo), y a plagas (Empoasca kraemeri y Tetranychus desertorum); rendimiento y arquitectura de la planta; tolerancia a suelos moderadamente acidos y a deficit hidrico; variabilidad de la hibridacion interespecifica; fijacion de N; factores nutricionales y de la calidad; desarrollo de harina de frijol. apendices: 1) descripcion amplia de los habitos de crecimiento de Phaseolus vulgaris y 2) lista de las accesiones de Phaseolus del CIAT mencionadas en el informe, incluyendo no. de la accesion del CIAT, identificacion, registro local y fuente. Summary, etc Research work carried out by CIAT in 1980 and results obtained are briefly analyzed: acquisition, evaluation, and distribution of germplasm; bush and climbing bean improvement; resistance to viral (BCMV, BYMV, soybean mosaic virus, bean chlorotic mottle virus, and BGMV), fungal (rust, anthracnose, and angular leaf spot), and bacterial diseases (bacterial blight and halo blight), and to pests (Empoasca kraemeri and Tetranychus desertorum); yield and plant architecture; tolerance to moderately acid soils and water stress; variability from interspecific hybridization; N fixation; nutritional and quality factors; bean flour manufacture. Two appendixes are included: (1) detailed description of Phaseolus vulgaris growth habits and (2) list of CIAT accessions of Phaseolus referred to in this report, including CIAT no. of accession, identification, local register, and source.
