Las principales actividades sobre virologia de frijol en CIAT durante 1984 incluyeron seleccion por resistencia dominante al BCMV (seleccion de lineas homocigotas resistentes), por resistencia multiple de genes al BCMV, por inmunidad al gen recesivo de BCMV y el manejo y pronostico de otras enfermedades virales importantes de frijol incluyendo la incorporacion de resistencia multiple (BCMV y BYMV) en todo el germoplasma mejorado colaborativamente. Los principales esfuerzos de investigacion sobre resistencia multiple de genes se concentraron en la escasez de fuentes de resistencia a la raiz negra, el conocimiento disponible relativamente limitado sobre la posible combinacion de los genes dominantes y recesivos, la frecuencia de genotipos resistentes a la raiz negra y la respuesta de plantas que poseen diferentes combinaciones de genes dominantes y recesivos. Igualmente, se evaluaron 14,823 accesiones CIAT por la presencia de genes recesivos utiles o dominantes combinados con genes recesivos, que son resistentes al BCMV y a la raiz negra. Tambien se realizaron estudios para determinar los efectos del BSMV en los principales componentes del rendimiento de la var. Diacol Calima. (RA-CIAT) |

The main activities of bean virology at CIAT in 1984 involved screening for BCMV dominant resistance (selection of homozygous BCMV resistant lines), BCMV multiple gene resistance, BCMV recessive gene immunity, and the management and prognosis of other important viral diseases of beans involving the incorporation of multiple resistance (BCMV and BYMV) into all the germplasm improved collaboratively. Main research efforts of BCMV multiple gene resistance concentrated on the scarcity of black root resistance sources, the relatively limited knowledge available on the possible combination of dominant and recessive genes, the frequency of black root resistant genotypes, and the response of plants possessing different combinations of dominant and recessive genes. Likewise, 14,823 CIAT accessions were evaluated for the presence of useful recessive, or dominant combined with recessive, genes that are resistant to BCMV and black root.
