La presente investigación caracterizó los sistemas de producción prevalecientes en el cantón Francisco de Orellana, Provincia de Napo, en el nororiente de Ecuador. Ella documenta la dotación de recursos, la productividad (pastos, cultivos y árboles) y los ingresos generados por las fincas en tres tipos diferentes de suelos, y determina las principales restricciones para intensificar los sistemas de producción en esta región del trópico húmedo. Finalmente, el trabajo identifica líneas de investigación en sistemas de producción y acciones de desarrollo y fomento adecuadas para las necesidades de los productores-colonos de la selva baja de Ecuador y para los requerimientos de este frágil ecosistema. |

This study characterizes the production systems prevalent in the Francisco de Orellana district, Napo Province, in northeast Ecuador. The study documents the distribution of resources, productivity in pastures, crops, and tree crops, and incomes of small farms on three types of soils. The main constraints to intensifying production systems in this humid tropical region are specified. Lines of research in production systems are suggested, together with actions for development, as are needed by the settler-producers in Ecuador's Lower Selva. The requirements of this fragile ecoystem are also discussed. |
