Se comparan las propiedades de los suelos de las praderas tropicales mejoradas en Australia y America Latina. En Australia predominan Alfisoles y Vertisoles, con una proporcion menor de Entisoles, Aridisoles, Ultisoles y Oxisoles. En America Latina predominan los Oxisoles y Ultisoles; tambien se encuetran areas mas pequenas con Alfisoles, Inceptisoles y Entisoles. El clima australiano se caracteriza por una estacion seca de 6-8 meses, con bajas temp y frecuentes heladas hasta los 17 grados S. En America Latina, las regiones de sabana tienen 4-6 meses de estacion seca, sin heladas, mientras la parte alta de la cuenca Amazonica y otras regiones no tienen una estacion seca significativa. La vegetacion predominante en los tropicos australianos con 500 mm de precipitacion anual son las sabanas boscosas. El pH en las regiones con Vertisoles y Alfisoles de Australia varia desde 5,5 - 9,0. Estos suelos no presentan toxicidad por Al y su contenido de bases intercambiables es generalmente alto. Los altos niveles de Na intercambiable son comunes en algunos subsuelos. La capacidad de fijacion del P de estos suelos, al igual que de muchos Ultisoles australianos es baja. Sin embargo, las deficiencias de P y S son comunes y, las deficiencias de Mo y Zn son serias en muchas areas. (Extracto) |
