Summary, etc	Se llevo a cabo un estudio de crecimiento de una graminea cespitosa (Panicum maximum var. trichoglume cv. Sabi), una estolonifera (P. coloratum cv. Bushman Mine) y una rizomatosa (Paspalum notatum cv. Paraguay) con el objeto de encontrar las razones de sus diferencias en produccion de forraje. Las comparaciones se realizaron durante la estacion de crecimiento de 1971-72. Todas las gramineas recibieron 450 kg de N, 90 kg de P2O5 y 55 kg de K2O/ha. Se impusieron 3 tratamientos de defoliacion: a) se cosecharon en serie a intervalos semanales durante un ano, b) durante la estacion de crecimiento siempre que alcanzaran floracion temprana, y c) a 3 intervalos semanales. Se encontraron diferencias marcadas entre las gramineas en cuanto a cantidad de forraje producido, masas radicales y bases de tallos/unidad de vol. de capa de suelo y en los hidratos de carbono disponibles totales en estas, pero las diferencias en contenido de PC fueron pequenas.
