Con los datos de rendimiento de doce experimentos de respuesta de la yuca a la aplicacion de N, P y K, en el estado Cojedes, se relaciono el P disponible del suelo con el requerimiento de fertilizante fosfatado de este cultivo. Para lograr este objetivo se aplico la tecnica del modelo lineal discontinuo, que permite calcular el rendimiento relativo, para luego relacionar este con el P disponible del suelo, determinado siguiendo los metodos Morgan, Bray 1, Mehlich 1 y Olsen; consecuentemente formar familias de suelo-cultivo de alta y baja probabilidad de respuesta a la fertilizacion fosfatada, divididas por el valor critico de P disponible. A fin de evaluar el mejor metodo de analisis de suelo, se calcularon los polinomios de segundo grado con los datos de ambas familias suelo-cultivo, para cada metodo de analisis empleado. Los coeficientes de correlacion mas altos correspondieron a los metodos de Olsen y Bray 1: 0,745 y 0,741, respectivamente. Debido a la mejor forma de la curva de Bray 1, punto de origen mas bajo y mejor pendiente, se opto por este metodo para dividir la curva por medio de indices de fertilidad en cuatro categorias de disponibilidad de P en el suelo, los cuales correspondieron a Muy Bajo, con menos de 4 ppm de P y con requerimiento de 110 o mas kg/ha de P2O5; Bajo, con 4 a 9 ppm de P y con un requerimiento de 80 a 110 kg/ha de P2O5; Medio, con 9 a 14 ppm de P y con 65 a 80 kg/ha de requerimiento de P2O5 y, finalmente, Alto, con mas de 14 ppm y con un requerimiento menor a 65 kg/ha de P2O5. Available soil P was related to P fertilizer requirements of cassava, on the basis of yield data from 12 expt. studying the response of the crop to NPK application in the state of Cojedes, Venezuela. The discontinuous lineal model was applied, allowing relative yields to be estimated; these yields were then related to available soil P (determined by the Morgan, Bray 1, Mehlich 1, and Olsen methods). Soil-crop groups were then formed, with either high or low probability of response to P fertilization according to critical values of available P. To determine the best method of soil analysis, 2nd-degree polynomials were estimated from the data of both soil-crop groups for each one of the analysis methods used. The highest correlation coefficients corresponded to the Olsen and Bray 1 methods (0.745 and 0.741, resp.). The Bray 1 curve had a better shape (lower point of origin and better slope); therefore this method was chosen to divide the curve into 4 categories of available soil P using fertility indexes. These corresponded to: (1) very low, less than 4 ppm P and requiring 110 kg or more P/ha; (2) low, with 4-9 ppm P and requiring 80-110 kg P/ha; (3) intermediate, 9-14 ppm P and requiring 65-80 kg P/ha; and (4) high, with more than 14 ppm P and requiring less than 65 kg P/ha.
