Se estudiaron la magnitud de las variaciones geneticas y las interrelaciones de varias caracteristicas de calidad del frijol blanco y frijol pinto, cultivados en 3 localidades de Michigan, EE.UU. caracteristicas medidas fueron peso de la semilla, peso inicial de solidos, color de la superficie de frijol seco y procesado (L, aL, bL), peso del frijol en remojo, proporcion de hidratacion, tendencia a formar masas y de romperse, reventarse o desintegrarse, textura, peso del frijol lavado y drenado, y humedad del frijol procesado. cv. para la mayoria de las caracteristicas en ambas clases de frijol. efectos de la ubicacion fueron altamente significativos en todos los rasgos. Ciertas caracteristicas mostraron interacciones significativas cv. x ubicacion. caracteres indicaron que, con pocas excepciones, hubo poca asociacion entre caracteres de calidad. independencia de las caracteristicas. basada en un procedimiento de seleccion en tandem seguido de la construccion de indices de seleccion. The extent of genetic variations and the interrelationships of several quality traits of cv. of navy and pinto bean, grown at 3 locations in Michigan, USA, were studied. The measured traits were seed wt., initial wt. of solids, surface color of dry and processed beans (L, aL, bL), wt. of soaked beans, hydration ratio, clumps, splits, texture, washed and drained wt., and processed bean moisture. Significant cv. differences were observed for most of the traits in both classes of beans. Location effects were highly significant for all traits. Certain traits showed significant cv. x location interactions. Phenotypic correlation coefficients among pairs of characters indicated that, with few exceptions, there were low associations among quality characters. Principal component analysis confirmed the independence of traits. A selection strategy based on a tandem selection procedure followed by construction of selection indices was suggested. (AS) |
