La efectividad de un impulso de luz roja actuando por intermedio del fitocromo en la induccion de la expansion de hojas primordiales en plantulas ahiladas de frijol cv. Limburg de 9 dias de edad aumento fuertemente por un pretratamiento continuo de luz roja lejana. Este aumento en la efectividad de un impulso rojo se correlaciona positivamente con el tiempo y la tasa de fluencia del pretratamiento con luz roja lejana continua. Cuando se interpone un periodo de oscuridad entre el final del pretratamiento con luz roja lejana continua y el impulso rojo inductivo, la parte fotorreversible de la respuesta a este impulso es altamente dependiente del estado fotoestacionario del fitocromo al inicio del periodo de oscuridad. Los resultados suministran solida evidencia de la actividad sinergista de 2 componentes de la accion del fitocromo durante la induccion del crecimiento foliar, uno de los cuales actua por intermedio de una fraccion muy estable de la forma del fitocromo que absorbe la luz roja lejana. The effectiveness of a red-light pulse acting through phytochrome in inducing primary leaf expansion in 9-day-old etiolated bean cv. Limburg seedlings is strongly increased by a continuous far-red light pretreatment. This increase in effectiveness of a red pulse is positively correlated with the time and the fluence rate of the continuous far-red light pretreatment. When a dark period is interposed between the end of the continuous far-red light pretreatment and the inductive red pulse, the photoreversible part of the response to this pulse is highly dependent upon the photostationary state of phytochrome at the onset of the dark period. The results give strong evidence for the synergistic activity of 2 components of phytochrome action during leaf growth induction, one of them acting via a very stable fraction of the far-red absorbing form of phytochrome.
