| Summary, etc | Se realizaron experimentos en Vicosa (Brasil) para determinar la epoca optima de cosecha de la variedad de frijol Rico 23. Como base para esta determinacion se utilizo la calidad fisiologica de la semilla. Las semillas se cosecharon 72 dias despues de la emergencia a intervalos de 48 horas. La calidad fisiologica se determino mediante las siguientes pruebas: velocidad de crecimiento, conteo inicial de la germinacion y germinacion. El comportamiento de la semilla tambien se estudio bajo condiciones de campo. Los resultados de laboratorio y de campo mostraron que el mejor periodo para la cosecha de la semilla oscila entre los 82 y 98 dias despues de la emergencia. En este periodo las semillas presentaron la maxima calidad fisiologica, que posteriormente disminuyo considerablemente. El conteo inicial de la germinacion, aplicado de acuerdo a las Regulaciones Internacionales de Analisis de Semilla, no sirvio para determinar eficientemente el vigor de la semilla. (RA-CIAT) |

| Summary, etc | Experiments were carried out in Vicosa (Brazil) to determine optimal harvest time for the bean variety Rico 23. Physiological quality of the seeds was used as the basis for this determination. Seventy-two days after plant emergence, seeds were harvested at 48- h intervals. Physiological quality was determined by the following tests: accelerated aging, initial germination count and germination. Seed performance was also studied under field conditions. Laboratory and field results showed that the period between 82-98 days postemergence is best for seed harvest. In this period seeds had maximun physiological quality, which declined considerably afterwards. The initial germination count, applied according to the International Rules of Seed Analysis, was not efficient in determining seed vigor. (AS) |
