Se empleo un diseno de parcelas divididas para evaluar la factibilidad economica de un programa de control integrado, que combinaba 3 tratamientos diferentes de insecticidas (1, 2 y 4 aplicaciones de 1,5 c.c. Folidol/litro de agua) y 6 variedades diferentes de frijol, que variaban desde altamente susceptible hasta altamente resistente al picudo de la vaina del frijol. La variedad Pinto 168 (muy resistente) no necesita insecticida; las variedades resistentes (8-15 por ciento del ataque normal) necesitan 1 aplicacion; las variedades tolerantes y moderadamente susceptibles (15-25 por ciento del ataque normal), 2 aplicaciones; y las muy susceptibles (45-100 por ciento del ataque normal), 3 o mas aplicaciones. A split-plot design was used to evaluate the economic feasibility of an integrated control program combining 3 different insecticide treatments (1, 2 and 4 applications of 1.5 cc Folidol/liter of water) and 6 different bean varieties, ranging from highly susceptible to highly resistant to the bean pod weevil. The variety Pinto 168 (highly resistant) needs no insecticide; resistant varieties (8-15 percent of the normal attack) need 1 application; tolerant and moderately susceptible (15-25 percent and 25-45 percent), 2 applications; and highly susceptible (45-100 percent of the normal attack), 3 or more applications.
