Se aislo un virus filamentoso de aprox. 715 nm de largo de una planta de la leguminosa forrajera tropical Centrosema macrocarpum atacada por el mosaico. Secciones ultradelgadas de tejido foliar sintomatico mostraron inclusiones cilindricas tipo molinete en el citoplasma de las celulas infectadas. El virus se transmitio mecanicamente, por afidos y a traves de la semilla. Las preparaciones purificadas del virus tuvieron una razon de absorcion (A 260/280) de 1.13, contenian una sola proteina con un p. mol. relativo de 32,500 y una especie de acido nucleico de 9 kb. El virus no se diferencio serologicamente del virus del mosaico de la soya y se relaciono con el virus del mosaico comun del frijol y con el del mosaico 2 de la sandia. Las pruebas serologicas y de patogenicidad indican que el potivirus aislado de C. macrocarpum es una cepa del virus del mosaico de la soya. (RA-CIAT) |
