Se presenta una revision de literatura de los expt. realizados sobre la poda en el cultivo de yuca. Se enumeran sus ventajas (medida de proteccion, obtener ramas para ampliar las areas de siembra y medida preservativa para remover o quemar la parte aerea atacada por plagas y enfermedades) y desventajas si se realiza en forma desordenada (pobreza en el contenido de hidratos de carbono en la raiz, disminucion de la productividad y desarrollo de las malezas). Se analizan las medidas que se deben tener en cuenta en la conservacion de material de propagacion: 1) local, que debe ser fresco, sin excesiva humedad y protegido de los rayos del sol; y 2) posicion, que puede ser vertical u horizontal. A literature review is presented on the expt. conducted on pruning in cassava cultivation. Its advantages are listed (protective measure, branches are obtained to extend planting areas, and preservative measure to remove or eliminate the aerial parts attacked by pests and diseases) along with its disadvantages when conducted in a disorderly manner (low carbohydrate content in roots, reduction in productivity, and weed development). The measurements that should be taken into account in the conservation of propagation material are analyzed: (1) fresh place without excess moisture and protected from sun rays; and (2) position which can be vertical or horizontal.
