(CIAT)Summary: IITA has been involved in the search for resistance to cassava bacterial blight in Africa. This is a presentation of the results obtained during the period 1972-74. The genetic source of resistance to CBB has now been identified; the mechanism of resistance appears to be due to quantitative genes mainly with additive effects, although some present nonadditive effects. Based on the results of these trials, it seems possible to produce high- yielding varieties with a high level of resistance to CBB. (CIAT)
