Se identificaron fuentes de resistencia tanto al AMD como al CBB, del cruzamiento interespecifico de M. esculenta x M. glaziovii y se incorporaron exitosamente en poblaciones mejoradas, de las cuales se obtuvieron selecciones de altos rendimientos resistentes al AMD y al CBB. La resistencia al AMD y al CBB se relaciono geneticamente. Esta respuesta correlacionada de resistencia hizo posible mejorar la yuca rapida y simultaneamente para resistencia a ambas enfermedades, mientras se mantenian otros caracteres deseables. Estas var. han sido multiplicadas rapidamente y entregadas a muchos agricultores nigerianos. Esta resistencia sirve para muchos paises africanos. Sources of resistance to both AMD and CBB were identified from the interspecific cross M. esculenta x M.glaziovii and successfully incorporated into improved breeding populations, from which high- yielding, AMD- and CBB -resistant selections were obtained. Resistance to AMD, and CBB was genetically related. This correlated response of resistance made it possible to improve cassava rapidly for resistance to both diseases at the same time, while maintaining other desirable characters. These var. have been rapidly multiplied and released to many Nigerian farmers. This resistance holds true in many African countries.
