This collection is widely used by scientists who need plant materials of certified determination and origin for analyses in different research fields such as electrophoresis, biochemical essays, and cytology. Many requests aim at screening materials for resistance to diseases, pests, or physiological stress. Many accessions from the collection have also been used in intra and interspecific hybridizations, made in the framework of collaborative research between the Dept. of Tropical Agriculture (Belgium) and food legume programs of IITA (Nigeria) and CIAT (Colombia).
