These include: the domestication areas based on botanical, archaeological, historical, and linguistic arguments; the dispersal of common bean cv. from their areas of domestication to other parts of the world; morphological, physiological, and genetic changes that have characterized P. vulgaris during domestication and subsequent evolution. Several features which are of particular relevance to the management of genetic resources and breeding programs are highlighted and several potential research areas are identified. (CIAT)
