(CIAT) spa
Cassava cv. BGM 116 (erect growth habit) was intercropped with short- cycle crops (groundnut cv. Maranhao, Phaseolus cv. Mulatinho, Vigna cv. 489, and sweet potato) in a randomized block design in Cruz das Almas, Brazil. Double rows of cassava were spaced at 2.0 m with 0.6 m between component rows and between plants. Sweet potato was spaced at 0.8 x 0.4 m with 2 or 3 rows, Phaseolus and Vigna at 0.5 x 0.2 m, and groundnut at 0.5 x 0.1 m with 3 or 4 rows between the double rows. According to the statistical interpretation of the results, cassava can be intercropped with all crops if resp. LER values (Phaseolus, Vigna, groundnut, and sweet potato) are 76, 62, 87, and 70 percent over that of monocropped cassava. (CIAT) eng
