Eighteen cvs. of guinea grass were evaluated under dry conditions without fertilization during two years using a randomized block design with three repetitions. Were used two controls (cv. Likoni and Gigante Azul) for it's DM yield and quality, respectively. There were found significative differences (P less than 0,05) among treatments for the character DM yield, quality index and leafs percentage for both seasons (dry and wet). Cvs. T-92, T-62 and K-193 were selected according to its DM yield (318,8; 306,9 and 284,4 g DM/bunch, respectively) for dry period and for its quality index (20,6; 20,0 and 20,0 respectively) at the same season. It is suggested that the cultivars mentioned are included to the superior phases of the national scheme of evaluation because they have great perspectives as forage of high quality wich possibility to be extended through seed. It is recommended their utilization as masculine progenitors eng
