In: Revista Brasileira de ZootecniaSummary: The objective of this study was to compare birth (BW) and weaning (WW) weights and average daily gain from birth to weaning (ADG) of straightbred Nellore and several crossbred Charolais x Nellore groups of cattle, from two farms of Sao Paulo State. The data were analyzed by the least squares method with models that included the effects of farm (F), year and month of birth, age of cow, sex of calf and genetic group (GG) nested within farm (GG/F). The effects of GG/F affected all studied traits, and the crossbred animals were heavier than the Nellore ones, in both farms. However, the differences between the crossbred groups and the Nellore group and among the crossbreeds depend upon the perdentage of Charolais and the percentages of maternal and individual heterozygoses in the animals.(RA)
