Se presenta una descripcion breve de los problemas, alternativas y procesos para la produccion de alcohol a partir de la yuca que permitiria liberar al Brasil de la importacion de gasolina produciendo combustible a bajo costo. Se ha verificado que el rendimiento en alcohol de la yuca llegara a 14 por ciento de la raiz empleada. La cana de azucar da un maximo de 4,5 por ciento de alcohol. La yuca rinde 2 veces mas en almidon que la papa, por tanto, se debe obtener de 18 a 201 t. de alcohol de variedades de yuca que contienen 30 a 40 por ciento de almidon. (CIAT) spa
A brief description is given of the problems involved in producing cassava alcohol; this low-cost fuel would permit Brazil to stop petroleum imports. Cassava yields 14 percent of alcohol/root, whereas sugar cane gives a maximum of 4.5 percent. Since cassava yields twice as much starch as potatoes, it is possible to obtain 18-20 liters of alcohol from 100 kg of cassava, using varieties with a 30-40 percent starch content. (CIAT) eng
