Se analizaron muestras de mani, maiz, batata, fruto del arbol del pan, yuca, malangay y copra, entre otros productos, por contaminacion con aflatoxinas debido al crecimiento de Aspergillus, posiblemente asociado con la alta tasa de cancer del higado observada en la poblacion fidjiana. En un concentrado para cerdos a base de yuca, se encontro una concn. prom. de aflatoxina de 7 mg/kg, posiblemente debido a la yuca seca incluida en el concentrado; este nivel, sin embargo, no se considero riesgoso. Tambien se analizaron muestras crudas, cocidas y asadas de yuca, recolectadas de casas urbanas en Fidji. Los alimentos se almacenaron a temp. ambiente y se evaluaron diariamente por la presencia de aflatoxina. No se detecto contaminacion en estas muestras. (CIAT) spa
Samples of peanuts, maize, sweet potato, breadfruit, cassava, taro, and copra, among others, were analyzed for aflatoxin contamination due to Aspergillus growth, thought to be possibly associated with a higher liver cancer rate in the Fijian community. In cassava-based pig feed, an av. aflatoxin concn. of 7 mg/kg was found, possibly due to the dried cassava included in the feed; this level, however, was not considered serious. Raw, boiled, and baked cassava samples were also used, collected from urban Fijian households. Foods were stored at room temp. and tested at daily intervals for the presence of aflatoxin.
