Durante 1982-83 se ensayaron nuevos arreglos espaciales de yuca (cv. BGM 116) intercalada con caupi (cv. Pituiba), en la Estacao Exptl. de Fruticultura Tropical en Conceicao do Almeida (Bahia, Brasil), para aumentar los ingresos de los agricultores. Se utilizo un diseno de bloques al azar y los tratamientos consistieron en yuca sembrada en hileras dobles espaciadas a 2.0, 2.5 y 3.0 m, intercalada con 4, 5 y 6 hileras de caupi, resp. La yuca sembrada en hileras dobles e intercalada con 2 cultivos de caupi en anos consecutivos presento mayores rendimientos que cuando se intercalo en hileras sencillas (1.0 x 0.6 m). Los mejores arreglos espaciales para rendimientos de raices de yuca fueron 2.0 x 0.5 x 0.5 m y 2.0 x 0.7 x 0.7 m con 4 hileras de caupi. Los mejores resultados para caupi se obtuvieron en cultivos puros e intercalados con yuca espaciada a 2.0 x 0.6 x 0.6 m, 2.0 x 0.5 x 0.5 m y 2.0 x 0.7 x 0.7 m con 4 hileras entre las hileras dobles. To increase farmer incomes, new spatial arrangements of cassava (cv. BGM 116) intercropped with cowpea (cv. Pituiba) were tested during 1982-83 at Estacao Exptl. de Fruticultura Tropical in Conceicao do Almeida (Bahia, Brazil). A randomized block design was used and treatments consisted of cassava planted in double rows spaced at 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 m, intercropped with 4, 5, and 6 rows of cowpea, resp. Cassava planted in double rows and intercropped with 2 cowpea crops in subsequent years had higher yields than when intercropped in single rows (1.0 x 0.6 m). The best spatial arrangements for cassava root yield were 2.0 x 0.5 x 0.5 m and 2.0 x 0.7 x 0.7 m with 4 rows of cowpea. Best results for cowpea were obtained in pure crops and when intercropped with cassava spaced at 2.0 x 0.6 x 0.6 m, 2.0 x 0.5 x 0.5 m, and 2.0 x 0.7 x 0.7 m with 4 rows between the double rows.
