Detection of four seed-borne plant viruses by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)

Se evaluo la sensibilidad de la tecnica ELISA para detectar 4 virus economicamente importantes (mosaico rayado de la cebada, mosaico de moteado verde del pepino, mosaico comun del frijol y mosaico de la calabaza), en semillas unicas asi como en lotes de semillas de cebada, pepino, frijol y calabaza, resp. Los resultados indicaron la conveniencia de la tecnica para detectar estos virus en semillas unicas germinadas o en embriones. Consecuentemente, se encontro que las tasas de transmision por semilla del virus del mosaico rayado de la cebada, del mosaico del moteado verde del pepino, del BCMV y del mosaico de la calabaza, fueron de 67, 17, 17 y 12 por ciento, resp. En mezclas fabricadas artificialmente de semillas o embriones infectados:sanos, se detectaron exitosamente los 4 virus en proporciones de 1:500, 1:25, 1:10 y 1:10, resp. (RA- CIAT) spa
The sensitivity of the ELISA technique in detecting 4 economically important viruses, namely, barley stripe mosaic, cucumber green mottle mosaic, bean common mosaic, and squash mosaic, in single seeds as well as in batches of barley, cucumber, bean, and squash seeds, resp., was evaluated. Results indicated the suitability of the technique in detecting these viruses in single germinated seeds or embryos.
