Bean-maize intercrops: A comparison of bush and climbing bean growth habits

P566 de frijol arbustivo y P364 de frijol voluble, ambos indeterminados, para explicar la reduccion diferencial del rendimiento de estos cv. cuando se intercalaron con maiz. Los 660 kg/ha de ventaja en el rendimiento del frijol voluble sobre el arbustivo (3.02 vs. 3.36 t/ha) fue el resultado directo del llenado de las vainas despues de los 75 dias, lo cual fue favorecido en gran parte por el area foliar producida despues de los 47 dias. La gran perdida en el rendimiento del frijol voluble cuando se intercalo con maiz (reduccion de 1.44 t/ha en el frijol arbustivo vs. 1.96 t/ha en el frijol voluble) se debio a un mayor traslapo con el cada vez mas dominante maiz. En frijol voluble, el maiz ocasiono reducciones de 2 semanas en las fases de establecimiento de area foliar y llenado de las vainas. Se discuten las diferencias en el registro del tiempo y la magnitud de las respuestas del crecimiento en los frijoles indeterminados de tipo arbustivo y voluble en relacion con la seleccion de frijol para la asociacion con maiz.
