(CIAT) spa
Pinto bean Bill Z was released in 1987 by the Colorado Agricultural Expt. Station. This cv. comes from a crossing made in 1976 between Gloria (a pink cv.) and 3526, a pinto selection derived from A 56-244 and UI 111. The registered crossing is A 56- 244-39/UI 111//A 56-244-8 (3526)///Goria. Bill Z has a semivine growth habit (type III); it reaches maturity at 96 days and its wt. of 100 seeds is 36.4 g. Bill Z yields 11 percent more than Olathe and UI 114. The new cv. is resistant to the Colorado rust strains (Uromyces phaseoli), except for strain 54. The cv. was resistant to local strains in Saginaw (Michigan), susceptible in Fargo (North Dakota), moderately susceptible to resistant in North Platte (Nebraska), and from highly susceptible to highly resistant, with low reaction to rust, in Beltsville (Maryland). Bill Z has recessive genes for resistance to the Type and New York 15 BCMV strains. (CIAT) eng
