N2  - Se discuten algunos aspectos sobre la evolucion del cultivo del frijol, como: las areas de domesticacion del frijol con base en argumentos botanicos, arqueologicos, historicos y linguisticos; la dispersion de cv. de frijol desde sus areas de domesticacion hasta otras partes del mundo; los cambios morfologicos, fisiologicos y geneticos que han caracterizado a Phaseolus vulgaris durante la domesticacion y la consiguiente evolucion. Se destacan algunas caracteristicas que revisten un interes particular para el manejo de recursos geneticos y programas de mejoramiento y se identifican algunas areas potenciales de investigacion. (CIAT); Several aspects of Phaseolus vulgaris evolution are reviewed. These include: the domestication areas based on botanical, archaeological, historical, and linguistic arguments; the dispersal of common bean cv. from their areas of domestication to other parts of the world; morphological, physiological, and genetic changes that have characterized P. vulgaris during domestication and subsequent evolution. Several features which are of particular relevance to the management of genetic resources and breeding programs are highlighted and several potential research areas are identified. (CIAT)
