N2  - En Vicosa y Coimbra (Minas Gerais, Brasil) se realizaron 2 expt. de cultivo asociado utilizando frijol var. Negrito 891 y var. de maiz de altura normal o corto. El frijol se sembro en la estacion lluviosa o en la seca. Las densidades de siembra del maiz fueron 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 y 50,000 plantas/ha. En la estacion lluviosa, el frijol se sembro en las hileras de maiz, mientras que en la estacion seca se sembraron 2 hileras de frijol entre las hileras de maiz. El maiz y el frijol tambien se sembraron en monocultivo para comparacion. La altura del maiz practicamente no tuvo efecto en los rendimientos de frijol y maiz. En la estacion lluviosa, la menor poblacion de maiz fue la mas benefica para el cultivo de frijol. En la estacion seca, sin embargo, las mayores densidades de siembra del maiz fueron las mejores. Maize height had practically no effect on bean and maize yields. In the rainy season, the lowest maize population was the most beneficial to the bean crops.
