Se hace un breve recuento de 2 cursos de capacitacion sobre produccion y procesamiento de yuca ofrecidos en la Costa Atlantica de Colombia a profesionales y tecnicos del proyecto colaborativo sobre desarrollo agroindustrial de la yuca (Programa de Desarrollo Rural Integrado/Agencia Canadiense para el Desarrollo Internacional- CIAT). Como resultado de estos cursos, surgieron las siguientes recomendaciones: elaborar proyectos para la produccion de semilla de yuca certificada por parte del Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA); ampliar la investigacion colaborativa ICA-CIAT para identificar cv. mejorados de yuca aptos para las condiciones de produccion locales; adelantar ensayos orientados a extender el periodo de secamiento de yuca durante la estacion lluviosa; y evaluar las actividades de capacitacion. A brief account is given of 2 training courses conducted on cassava production and processing offered on the Colombian Atlantic Coast to professionals and technicians of the cassava agroindustrial development collaborative project (Integrated Rural Development program (DRI)/Canadian International Development Agency- CIAT). The following recommendations resulted from these courses: projects for certified cassava seed production by the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA) should be elaborated; ICA-CIAT collaborative research to identify improved cassava cv. suitable for local production conditions should be expanded; trials aimed at extending the drying period of cassava during the rainy season should be conducted; and training activities should be evaluated.
