Se informa sobre los resultados obtenidos entre 1978-79 en un ensayo colaborativo de inoculacion en varias localidades, utilizando 10 cepas de Rhizobium phaseoli altamente eficientes. Los 12 ensayos IBIT se sembraron en 7 paises: Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, EE.UU. (Hawaii), Brasil, El Salvador y Colombia. Se obtuvieron respuestas significativas en el rendimiento (incremento del 39-61 por ciento sobre las plantas testigo sin N) en 5 sitios (La Selva, Colombia; Maui, Hawaii; 2 sitios en Piracicaba, Brasil; y San Andres, El Salvador). Las cepas CIAT 632 y CIAT 640 fueron generalmente las mas eficientes. La nodulacion intensiva de plantas testigo no inoculadas ocurrio en varios sitios, destacando el problema que probablemente ocurrira con rizobios naturales en el suelo en las regiones tradicionales del cultivo del frijol. Results obtained in 1978-79 in a collaborative multi-location inoculation trial using 10 highly efficient strains of Rhizobium phaseoli are reported. Twelve IBIT trials were sown in 7 countries: Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, USA (Hawaii), Brazil, El Salvador, and Colombia. Significant yield responses (39-61 percent increase above control plants without N) were obtained at 5 sites (La Selva, Colombia; Maui, Hawaii; 2 sites in Piracicaba, Brazil; San Andres, El Salvador). Strains CIAT 632 and CIAT 640 were generally the most effective. Extensive nodulation of uninoculated control plants occurred at several sites highlighting the problem likely to occur with native soil rhizobia in traditional bean-growing regions. (AS)
