Los cambios de presion originados por estas alteraciones en el flujo laminar producen ondas de sonido detectables mediante un microfono electreto. Los conteos acusticos y los del rotor se correlacionaron altamente (r = 0.98), con aprox. un conteo acustico por cada 26 conteos del rotor. El aumento de la enfermedad medido por una escala de clasificacion visual se correlaciono altamente con los conteos acusticos (r = 0.94) y los del rotor (r = 0.96). La lectura digital inmediata, la sencillez del diseno y el gran vol. de muestreo son ventajas que posee el contador acustico en comparacion con otros metodos para el conteo de particulas para algunas investigaciones fitopatologicas. Bountiful during the course of 4 epidemics in controlled environment chambers. In the acoustical counter, air-borne particles are drawn through a capillary section of a tubular acoustical element, where particles larger than 5 micro m in diameter shed vortices as they are accelerated less rapidly than the surrounding air. Pressure changes caused by these disturbances in the laminar flow cause sound waves detectable with an electret microphone. Acoustical counts and rotorod counts were highly correlated (r = 0.98), with approx. 1 acoustical count for every 26 rotorod counts. Disease increase as measured by a visual rating scale was highly correlated with both acoustical counts (r= 0.94) and rotorod counts (r= 0.96). Immediate digital readout, simplicity of design, and large sampling vol. give the acoustical counter advantages over other particle counting methods for some phytopathological investigations. (AS)
