Online resources: Summary: Se presentan los resultados de un estudio de comercializacion de la yuca en Asuncion, Paraguay, basado principalmente en la informacion recopilada en una encuesta de mercadeo y consumo realizada en 1987 a nivel de mayorista, minorista y consumidor. Se recopilaron datos sobre diferentes componentes del proceso de comercializacion de raices frescas, canales de comercializacion, vol. y precios por participante, costos de transporte y comercializacion, beneficios y rentabilidad en el mercadeo del producto, factores que influyen en la compra y comportamiento de los vol. de comercializacion. Se dan las caracteristicas generales de los mercados mayoristas y minoristas, y de los consumidores de yuca; ademas, se ilustra el comportamiento de los consumidores segun el estrato socioeconomico y segun el acceso a los mercados capitalinos. Tambien se indica el deterioro de las raices de yuca durante el proceso de comercializacion; la conservacion de las raices en bolsas de plastico puede ser un medio para resolver los problemas planteados. Data were compiled on the different components of the process of commercializing fresh cassava roots, commercialization channels, vol. and prices per participant, transportation and commercialization costs, benefits and returns in marketing the product, factors affecting the purchase, and the behavior of commercialization vol. General characteristics of cassava wholesale and retail markets and of cassava consumers are given; furthermore, consumer behavior according to socioeconomic status and to access to markets of the capital is illustrated. Cassava root deterioration during commercialization is also indicated; the conservation of roots in plastic bags could help solve the problems encountered. (CIAT)
