Se presentan recomendaciones para la produccion y procesamiento de yuca en Filipinas. Se indican los requerimientos de clima (temp., precipitacion y alt.) y suelo. Se describen los cv. recomendados PRC-24, PRC-13, Hawaiian 5, Datu 1 y Lakan 1. Se presentan recomendaciones para preparacion del suelo, siembra, epoca y distancia de siembra, tratamiento de las estacas, desyerbas y fertilizacion. Se describe el dano causado por acaros y se presentan medidas de control para Tetranychus telarius. Insectos de importancia incluyen Chrysomphalus ficus, Saissetia nigra y S. coffeae; otras plagas son las ratas y los jabalies. Se describen las enfermadades causadas por Cercosporidium henningsii, Cercospora caribaea, Xanthomonas campestris pv. manihotis y Fomes sp. Se presentan recomendaciones para la cosecha y el almacenamiento de raices. Se discuten la produccion de almidon, trozos (gaplek), tapiocas, fideos y alimentos para humanos y para animales. Entre los usos industriales de la yuca se destaca la produccion de alcohol; se describe su proceso ademas de la utilizacion de subproductos como el bagazo, hojas, tallos y medula de tallo. Se presentan los costos de produccion de yuca y las ganancias a la inversion. Los apendices incluyen recetas de cocina, raciones para animales y recomendaciones en casos de envenenamiento con pesticidas. PRC-24, PRC-13, Hawaiian 5, Datu 1, and Lakan 1 are described. Recommendations for soil preparation, planting, planting time and spacing, cutting treatment, weeding, and fertilization are presented. Mite damage is described and control measures are given for Tetranychus telarius and T. kansawai. Important insects include Chrysomphalus ficus, Saissetia nigra and S. coffeae; other pests include rats and wild boars. The diseases caused by Cercosporidium henningsii, Cercospora caribaea, Xanthomonas campestris pv. manihotis, and Fomes sp. are described. Recommendations are presented for root harvest and storage. The production of starch, chips (gaplek), tapiocas, noodles, and food for humans and feed for animals are discussed. Alcohol production is highlighted among the industrial uses of cassava; its process is described as well as the utilization of by- products such as bagasse, leaves, stems, and stem pith. Cassava production costs and net returns are given. Appendixes includerecipes, animal rations, and recommendations in case of pesticide poisoning. (CIAT)
