Se determino el efecto de la poda y de la duracion del periodo durante el cual se mantuvieron las raices de yuca en el suelo, en la conservacion y la calidad de las raices, en Lavras, Brasil, en un Latosol rojo oscuro. Se utilizo un diseno de bloques al azar con parcelas divididas y 4 repeticiones. Las parcelas constaron de la interaccion de los cv. (Mantiqueira e IAC 12- 829) x el tiempo de cosecha (0, 7, 14, 21 y 28 dias despues de la poda); las subparcelas contenian los tratamientos de plantas podadas y no podadas. La poda se llevo a cabo 12 meses despues de la siembra. El nivel de deterioro fisiologico de las raices se redujo cuando las partes aereas se podaron hasta 28 dias antes de la cosecha, siendo el efecto mas pronunciado cuando la poda se realizo 21 y 28 dias antes de la cosecha. Independientemente de la poda, la permanencia de las raices en el suelo redujo el nivel de deterioro fisiologico de las raices. La poda no afecto los niveles de fibra cruda pero aumento el tiempo de coccion y el contenido total de azucares y disminuyo los niveles de almidon de las raices. (RA-CIAT) |

The effect of pruning and the length of time during which cassava roots were kept in the soil on root conservation and quality was determined in Lavras, Brazil, on a dark red Latosol. A randomized block design with split- plots and 4 replications was used. The plots consisted of the interaction cv. (Mantiqueira and IAC 12-829) x harvesting time (0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after pruning) and the subplots contained the treatments nonpruned and pruned plants. Pruning was carried out 12 mo. after planting. The level of physiological deterioration of the roots was reduced when aerial parts were pruned up to 28 days before harvesting, these effects being more pronounced when pruning was performed 21 and 28 days before harvest. Regardless of pruning, the permanence of the roots in the soil reduced the level of physiological deterioration of the roots. Pruning did not affect the levels of crude fiber but increased cooking time and total sugar content and decreased root starch levels. (AS) |
